Summary: From August 11, 2026, French law restricts telemarketing calls. Customers placing outbound solicitation calls to France must have valid consent from the recipient, or the call must relate to an existing contract, before this date. This applies across all industries. Impacted customers: All customers placing outbound telemarketing calls to France. |
What is changing and why
French law introduces a general ban on telephone solicitation, effective August 11, 2026. From this date, outbound marketing calls are only permitted if the recipient has previously given free, specific, informed, and revocable consent, or if the call relates to an existing contract.
Impact & action required
Customers placing outbound telemarketing calls to France must:
- Confirm they hold documented, valid consent from each recipient they plan to call, or
- Confirm the call relates to an existing contract with the recipient.
Calls that meet neither condition may not proceed after August 11, 2026.
No action is required for customers who do not place outbound telemarketing calls to France.
Time and duration
This requirement takes effect August 11, 2026, and applies on an ongoing basis thereafter.
Also relevant: messaging requirements to France
Separately from the telemarketing requirement above, France has had additional requirements in place since March 1, 2026, covering SMS sent to French numbers (sender ID formatting, message links, and sending windows). These are unrelated to the August 11 deadline. Customers sending SMS to France should review this Knowledge Base article for details.
