Identity Validation: Check phone numbers, emails, and IP addresses for fraud

Identity Validation lets admins validate phone numbers, emails, and IP addresses for fraud and reputation risk, so you can spot fraudulent or suspicious entries before they become a problem. From the new Validation tab in Identity, you can scan your business contacts, your own contact center numbers, a single item, or a CSV of your own numbers or emails, then review risk scores, filter the results, and export them to CSV.

What you can do

  • Scan every phone number or email address in your business contacts.
  • Scan the phone numbers provisioned in your contact center to find any that carry a negative or fraudulent reputation. This can happen when a carrier recycles a number that was previously flagged.
  • Check a single phone number, email address, or IP address on demand.
  • Upload a CSV file of your own phone numbers or emails (up to 5,000 rows).
  • Review a risk score and the signals behind it, search, sort and filter the results, and export them to CSV.

You need access to the Identity app in Talkdesk. Scans of your contact center numbers (My numbers) are kept separate from scans of your customer contacts, so the two sets of results never mix.

Open Identity Validation

  1. Open the Identity app.
  2. Select the Validation tab.

The tab lists every validation you have run, newest first.

For each validation, you can see:

Column What it shows
Validation The type of validation. For quick validations and CSV uploads, the value or file name appears underneath.
Items How many items were checked.
Status In progress while the scan runs; Done when it finishes.
High risk / Suspicious / Safe How many items fell into each risk group.
Date & time When the validation was run.

Select a validation name to open its detailed results. Use the column headers to sort the list, and the pagination at the bottom to move between pages.

Start a new validation

Select New validation at the top right and choose what you want to check.

Option Use it to
Contact numbers Validate all phone numbers in your business contacts.
Contact emails Validate all email addresses in your business contacts.
My numbers Validate all the phone numbers you own in Talkdesk.
Upload CSV Validate phone numbers or emails from a file.
Quick validation Check a single phone number, email address or IP address.

Each scan is added to the Validation list. While it runs, the status shows In progress, and it changes to Done when the scan finishes.

Check a single phone number, email, or IP address (Quick validation)

  1. Select New validation, then Quick validation.
  2. Choose Phone, Email, or IP.
  3. Enter the value. For phone numbers, include the country code, for example +1 202 555 0118.
  4. Select Validate.

The result appears in the same window. You get a risk score from 0 to 100, a verdict such as High risk or Safe, and a fraud score bar. Below that are the signals behind the score. For an IP address, these include the country, region, city, and ISP, the connection type, and whether a proxy, VPN, or Tor is in use, whether it is a trusted network, and whether there has been recent abuse.

You can validate another value without closing the window: change the value and select Validate again. Each quick validation is also added to the Validation list so you can find it later.

Validate a file (Upload CSV)

Use a CSV file when you have a long list to check. You can include up to 5,000 rows in one file.

  1. Select New validation, then Upload CSV.
  2. Choose Phone or Email, depending on what your file contains.
  3. If you need a starting point, select Download template.
  4. Add your file. Put one value per row. Phone numbers need the country code, for example, +1 202 555 0118.
  5. Select Upload CSV file.

A message confirms that the validation is in progress, and a new CSV validation row appears in the list with the file name underneath. When the status changes to Done, select it to see the results.

Review the results

Selecting a validation opens its results page. Use the back arrow at the top left to return to the list.

The columns depend on what you checked:

Validation type Columns
Phone numbers Contact, Risk, Phone validation, Line type, Country, Active, Validated on
Emails Contact, Risk, Email validation, Disposable, Leaked, Generic, Validated on
IP addresses Contact, Risk, IP validation, Country, VPN, Proxy, Validated on

Search, sort and filter

  • Use the search box to find a specific phone number or email address.
  • Select a column header to sort by it.
  • Use the column icon to choose which columns to show.
  • Select the filter icon to narrow the list, for example by Phone validation result or whether the number is Active, then select Apply.

Export the results

Select Export to CSV at the top right of the results page. A confirmation message appears when the file has been exported.

Understanding the results

  • Risk score: a number from 0 to 100. The higher the number, the higher the likelihood of fraud.
  • High risk, Suspicious, Safe: the risk group each item falls into. The Validation list shows how many items landed in each group.
  • Fraud score bar: a visual view of the same score in the details.

Treat the result as an early warning. Review high-risk and suspicious items before you contact, trust, or keep them in your phonebook.
