On June 17, 2024, Talkdesk will be transitioning from Universal 2nd Factor (U2F) to Web Authentication (WebAuthn) as a mechanism to support two-factor authentication (2FA). This transition aims to provide our customers with a more robust and versatile authentication experience.
Why is this change being made
With the deprecation of Google Chrome U2F API in 2022, Talkdesk adopted WebAuthn API to interact with Security Keys to create a two-factor authentication (2FA) mechanism. The transition from U2F to WebAuthn is aligned with the industry's efforts to standardize and enhance web authentication practices, providing improved security, flexibility, and user experience. This new API fully supports Security Keys with improved features.
When will the change be effective
On June 17, 2024, Security Keys configured or modified in Talkdesk before July 2022 will stop working.
Impact
Active users with a Security Key configured before July 2022 will need to reconfigure the key.
Notable impact to users - [Customer Action May Be Required]
Existing users who have configured a physical USB Security Key as a 2FA mechanism before July 2022 will need to remove it and reconfigure the security key once again. To do this, please follow the steps in “Disabling two-factor Authentication” and then “Enabling two-factor authentication”. Not following these steps will result in the user not being able to log in to Talkdesk without their 2FA recovery codes (if this happens, follow the steps in “Lost security key or phone”).
Important: If a user is inactive at Talkdesk, no action is required.
