Types of User Network Connections

This article outlines the different types of user connections that may exist in a given network.

 

Office User with a Network Security Device

Users who work in a company or managed/service office with a network security device, such as a firewall, and an IT department or manager.

 

Office User with VPN

Users who connect to a company VPN (Virtual Private Network) before accessing their applications.

 

Home User with VPN

Users that work from home and connect to a company VPN before accessing their applications.

 

Home User with Laptop Security

Users that work from home and have a business laptop with network security configured.

 

VDI User with a Hosted Talkdesk Application

Users who run Talkdesk applications from a VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure), such as Citrix, VMWare, Amazon, Azure, and Google. VDIs will always include network security controls.

 

VDI User with a Locally Accessed Talkdesk Application

Users who run Talkdesk applications from their desktop, whilst running other applications via a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), such as Citrix, VMWare, Amazon, Azure, and Google. These environments will generally always include network security controls.

 

Office User without a Network Security Device

Users who work in a company or managed office with no network security device.

 

Home User without a Network Security Device

Users that work from home using their home internet with no corporate VPN (Virtual Private Network) or firewall.
