If you use US or CA phone numbers to send text messages using Talkdesk, we encourage you to continue reading this article.
Toll-Free Message Verification for US/Canada
Toll-Free numbers are commonly used for business messaging by most major carriers in the United States and Canada.
Until now, Toll-Free numbers have been available with no registration required. However, to prevent fraud and spam traffic, carriers now require new and existing US and CA Toll-Free numbers to be registered and verified to avoid service interruptions and blocked messages.
Effective October 1, 2022, there will be industry-wide thresholds for messaging sent over unverified US Toll-Free numbers:
- Daily limit: 2,000 messages
- Weekly limit: 12,000 messages
- Monthly limit: 25,000 messages
These limits aren’t applicable when a Toll-Free number has been submitted for verification and is in a ‘pending’ state or already verified.
Additionally, unverified CA Toll-Free numbers will not have these thresholds and may experience immediate blocking, so verification is highly recommended. Once these numbers have been submitted for verification, there should be no disruptions.
If you’ve already verified your Toll-Free numbers, no further action is needed.
How can I request a verification?
If you currently use US and/or CA Toll-Free numbers for messaging (SMS), you must open a ticket in Talkdesk Support Portal requesting verification for your Toll-Free numbers. This verification process is free of cost. Talkdesk is committed to helping you comply with these changing carrier requirements.
What is a Toll-Free number?
A Toll-Free number is a 10-digit number with distinct three-digit codes (800, 888, 877, 866, 855, 844, or 833) that can be used to send both SMS and voice messages to recipients in the US and Canada, making it a popular alternative to long code or short code numbers in these countries.
Application-to-Person (A2P) messaging via standard 10-digit long code (10DLC) phone numbers
We would like to remind you of this announcement that was made at the beginning of the year related to regulations on the messaging ecosystem for US phone numbers and only for 10-digit long code numbers (does not include Toll-Free numbers).
Don’t wait for a disruption in your SMS service or higher fees - register your US long codes for Application to Person (A2P) messaging! Major US mobile network operators now require businesses that use standard 10-digit long code numbers for messaging to register. Messages sent within the United States and from unregistered long codes are subject to higher fees and have lower deliverability rates.
If you’re still using unregistered numbers for Talkdesk SMS products, please start the registration process immediately. Talkdesk has a simple process in place to help our customers get their 10-digit long code numbers registered correctly.
In case you have Toll-Free numbers and 10-digit long codes that have to take into account these two processes - Toll-Free Verification and A2P Registration - you can open a single ticket and attach the necessary info.
If you have any questions about Toll-Free Number verification, please submit requests via the Talkdesk Support Portal.
