What is A2P 10DLC?

A2P 10DLC is a registration system designed to increase trust in the messaging ecosystem in the United States, by providing US carriers with transparency about who is sending messages (brand registration), and what types of messages they are sending (campaign registration).

This system concerns Application-to-Person (A2P) type messaging, via local 10-digit long code (10DLC) phone numbers. All Talkdesk customers using Talkdesk SMS products in the United States are classified by carriers as Application-to-Person.

To help you assess if you need to register in A2P 10DLC, we provide some guidelines next.

What are the benefits of A2P 10DLC?

By registering your business profile, you gain the ability to engage with customers using a verified local identity. The new A2P dedicated routes will offer increased throughput, better delivery quality, and lower filtering risk than the long code SMS of the past while using the same 10DLC phone numbers.

Do we have to register?

All Talkdesk customers sending more than 3,000 segments of messages per day to recipients in the United States, or those using more than 5 long code numbers (regardless of message volume) are required to register as a Standard Brand in order to prevent message traffic from being subjected to heavier filtering or disrupted message delivery by US carriers.

If you send fewer than 3,000 SMS message segments a day to the United States, and use 5 or fewer long code phone numbers for that messaging, you qualify to register as a Low-Volume Standard Brand. Low-Volume Standard registration requires less customer data than Standard, and there are no registration fees. Low-Volume Standard offers reduced message throughput (MPS) compared to Standard, but will still be required in order to ensure no disruption to SMS messages being delivered.

US Toll-free phone numbers do not require a registration in A2P 10DLC.

If you use any of these Talkdesk products, we recommend a registration in A2P 10DLC:

  • Talkdesk Digital Engagement: SMS Channel;

  • Talkdesk Feedback;
