After installing Callbar for Windows, you may need to configure your personal firewall to allow Callbar to access the Internet.
In this article, we will go through the steps on how to create this rule using ESET Endpoint Security.
Note: You need to have Administrator privileges over your local machine. Please consult with your Systems or Network Administrator before making this change as your company may use ERA/ESMT and can deploy these changes centrally.
Click on the Windows icon in the bottom left corner of your screen, type ESET and then select the ESET Endpoint Security option .
In the ESET Endpoint Security window, select Setup and then Network .
At the top of the Network screen, you will see an option called Firewall. Click on its settings cog and then select Configure .
The previous action will bring up the Advanced Setup. Expand the Advanced drop-down menu and then next to the Rules option click on Edit .
To manually add a rule, press Add in the bottom left corner of the Firewall Rules window.
Now you must enter the information for the rule. Fill out the fields on the General tab as shown in the picture, or copy the text below:
- Name: “Allow communication for Callbar.exe”
- Enabled: (Make sure the blue tick is shown)
- Direction: “Both”
- Action: “Allow”
- Protocol: “TCP & UDP”
- Profile: “Any Profile”
- Logging Severity: “None”
- Notify User: (Make sure grey and black X is shown)
Now select the Local tab . The Application field is the only one you will need to fill in. In it you need to type in the location of the Callbar application; however, this location is specific to your machine.
For example, if your username was Jay, and Windows was installed on the C drive, this is what you would need to type into the Application field:
Ask your Systems or Network Administrator for assistance if you are unsure what your username is.
Confirm all the information is correct and then press OK .
The previous step will return you to the Firewall Rules window. Press OK .
Press OK on the next screen to save the settings.
Note: If a Windows User Account Control menu pops up, press Yes to this.
Close the ESET Endpoint Security window by pressing the X in the top-right corner of the window.
You have now successfully created a firewall rule that will allow Callbar traffic to flow in and out of your machine.
Finally, please restart your machine for this change to take effect.
