Product Notice: Upcoming Changes to Talkdesk Desktop App Release Cadence and Support Policy [Effective Jan 2025]

Summary: Starting on January 2, 2025, the Talkdesk Workspace Desktop App will receive a new version approximately every 90 days. Each version will only be supported for 90 days after the release of the newer version. After this period, older versions will no longer receive support or updates. Keep reading for more details.

Impacted customers: All customers using Talkdesk Workspace Desktop App, including resellers and partners. 

 

What is changing and why

To improve support and security, future releases of the Talkdesk Desktop App will align with the previous (N-1) version of Electron, the underlying technology. This change will ensure a better balance between Electron’s stability and Chromium updates while simplifying support for older app versions. It will also reduce the need for retroactive compatibility fixes and security patches.

Impact on customers

  • More frequent updates: Updates to the Talkdesk Desktop App will be released more frequently, with a minimum release cycle of 90 days, ensuring users benefit from the latest features, security enhancements, and bug fixes. 
  • Updated download page: The download page will only display the current and previous version. Older versions will be removed for download.
  • Impact on older versions: Each version will only be supported for 90 days after the release of the newer version. After this period, older versions will no longer receive support or updates. See more information about end of support here.
  • Release notes and testing: 
    • A release note will be published at least two days before a new version is released on the download page, allowing Administrators to run tests. One month after the release note, an in-product message will notify users of the availability of the newest version.
    • For critical issues, new release notes will be published, and updates will be available for immediate download.

Recommendation to customers: Talkdesk strongly recommends that customers use the latest version of the Talkdesk Workspace Desktop App to ensure continued compatibility, access to the latest features, and full support.
