How to set up BYOC / SIP Forwarding with Talkdesk

Follow

Rather than having to port over your number to Talkdesk®, you can use Bring Your Own Carrier (BYOC) to maintain your existing phone numbers with a local carrier and have those calls forwarded to Talkdesk via SIP, so that agents can answer them directly within Talkdesk.

The phone number will appear as normal in your account. Standard configurations and setup can be made as if the number was hosted with Talkdesk.

For example, if the phone number +18887433044 is with your external carrier, it will need to be changed so that when someone calls, the local carrier or PBX forwards calls via SIP to an address provided by Talkdesk Support, such as "sip:+18887433044@sip.provider.com". (this address is just an example, your exact SIP endpoint will be provided to you via ticket by contacting our support team on support@talkdesk.com).

Please bear in mind, support boundaries will be different since we do not host these numbers on our platform.

  1. We need to know
    • The Phone Numbers to be forwarded to Talkdesk.
    • The Public SIP IP Addresses that will be used by the local carrier to send calls.
  2. Steps we need to execute
    • Add those IPs to our firewall and share the SIP endpoint for each phone number.
  3. Steps you need to execute
    • Pass the endpoint information to your external provider for the forwarding configuration.

Please check with the external carrier hosting the numbers how many channels are permitted per phone number. Some may have limitations, and it will determine how many simultaneous inbound calls you can receive.
