Notice: Block of Unregistered A2P 10DLC Messaging

Effective July 5th, U.S. carriers will implement stricter filtering measures for A2P 10-digit long code SMS and MMS messages sent to recipients in the United States. These measures will require companies to register numbers under an approved campaign with a brand. Failure to comply with this requirement will result in a complete block of all unregistered A2P 10-digit long code messages sent to the U.S. after August 31, 2023.  

If you are using Talkdesk to send text messages (SMS or MMS), to recipients in the United States or Puerto Rico, using 10-digit long code (10DLC) phone numbers, please review and follow the instructions outlined in this article before July 3rd. 

Please note that phone numbers must be fully registered under an approved campaign with a brand to avoid blocks and that such campaigns must be manually reviewed and approved before registration can be completed. There are currently delays of several weeks due to the large number of manual reviews required. Therefore, we strongly encourage you to submit your registrations as soon as possible.

What is A2P 10DLC?

A2P 10DLC registration is a protocol that is part of a system that enhances trust in the messaging ecosystem. It provides transparency to US carriers regarding message senders (brand registration) and message types (campaign registration). Canadian mobile carriers are not impacted at this time. 

This system applies to Application-to-Person (A2P) type messaging, using local 10-digit long code (10DLC) phone numbers. All Talkdesk SMS products in the United States are considered by carriers as Application-to-Person. 

Do we have to register?

Yes, all Talkdesk customers sending text messages (SMS and MMS) in the United States must be registered. 

If you are using any of these Talkdesk products, it is crucial to register for A2P 10DLC promptly:

  • Talkdesk Digital Engagement: SMS Channel;
  • Talkdesk Feedback;
  • Agentless Dialer;
  • Automated Notifications;
  • Talkdesk for Salesforce SMS (SMS component, actions or bulk SMS);
  • AppConnect partners with SMS functionality.

Action Required - How to Register

Talkdesk will manage brand and campaign registrations as soon as we receive the necessary information from you about your business. To register your business for A2P 10DLC, please follow these steps:

  1. Download the following spreadsheet: A2P Business Profile and Campaigns.xlsx 
  2. Provide the required information about your business and include details about the SMS campaign use cases as instructed in the spreadsheet.
  3. Submit the completed file as an attachment through the Talkdesk Support Portal.
  4. Once submitted, Talkdesk Support will complete the registration process for your business profile and use cases.
    • If you are using the agentless Proactive Notifications Dialer to send SMS messages, please contact Talkdesk Support for additional SMS configuration steps within the dialer.

Talkdesk will send the information you provide to The Campaign Registry (TCR), a 3rd party entity responsible for managing this new registration system.
